There's a version of a well-dressed man that you can achieve off the rack, with the right brand and a bit of luck. And then there's the version that's only possible when a suit is built for your body from the beginning.

That's bespoke. And if you've never had a custom suit made, this guide will walk you through exactly what the process looks like at Arthur + Lucca.

What Is a Bespoke Suit?

Bespoke means made from scratch, specifically for you. Not sized up or down from a template — built to your measurements, your posture, your preferences, and your lifestyle.

A bespoke suit from Arthur + Lucca starts with a fitting where we take a complete set of measurements and talk through every design detail: lapel shape, button stance, pocket style, lining, canvas construction, and more. Then we select your fabric from our collection of over 4,500 options — primarily Italian mill wools, Super 110s through 160s, from mills including V.B.C., Canclini, Reda, Carnet, and Marzoni.

The suit is then constructed and returned for a fitting, where we confirm the fit and make any adjustments needed. Every alteration needed to achieve your confirmed fit is included in the price.

What's Included in a Bespoke Suit

  • Complete set of measurements and fit profile
  • Design consultation — lapels, buttons, pockets, vents, canvas, lining, and more
  • Fabric selection from 4,500+ options
  • Construction at a specialized custom factory
  • All alterations to achieve your confirmed fit, included
  • 50% off all future alterations on the garment for life

How Long Does a Custom Suit Take?

First-time clients can expect their first fitting in approximately 6 weeks. At that fitting we confirm the fit and complete any needed adjustments, which are finished within about a week. From initial appointment to finished suit: typically 7–8 weeks.

Returning fit-confirmed clients typically see a 3–4 week turnaround for additional pieces.

All orders are guaranteed within 90 days or your money back.

Bespoke vs. Made-to-Measure vs. Off the Rack

Off the rack is a suit made in standard sizes with no customization. It may fit well in some areas and need alterations in others — and those alterations are working within the limitations of an existing garment.

Made-to-measure starts with a base pattern that's adjusted to your measurements. More personalized than off the rack, but still working from a template.

Bespoke starts from nothing. Your measurements, your pattern, your design, your fabric. The result is a suit that fits the way no off-the-rack or made-to-measure garment ever fully can.

At Arthur + Lucca we offer both bespoke and made-to-measure options — the right choice depends on your priorities, budget, and timeline.

What Does a Custom Suit Cost in Chicago?

Bespoke suit pricing at Arthur + Lucca is fabric-based — the fabric you choose determines the price, not the design details. This keeps the process simple and transparent. Visit our custom clothing page for current pricing and fabric options.

Who Gets a Custom Suit Made?

More people than you might expect. Our custom clients include grooms planning their wedding suit, executives who have struggled to find off-the-rack suits that fit correctly, people who have lost or gained weight and want clothing built for their current body, and anyone who simply wants to look better than they ever have.

If you've ever put on a suit and thought "this is close but not quite right" — that feeling is exactly what bespoke eliminates.
